The memories of "motor behavior" of which Probert speaks are obviously
not memories of motor behavior: they are memories of perceptions that
resulted from motor behavior. The motor behavior which brought them
about was not mentioned.

I read Martin Probert's piece in the sci.cognitive newsgroup. Most of
the connections he finds seem reasonable, and consistent with the idea
that flashback perceptions are triggered by some aspect they share with
his perception of the activity going on at the time. He seems to think
that the neural activity embodying the connections involves motor
activity, but I think that is not necessarily the case, and that in some
cases, the triggering event is higher up in the hierarchy.

I've been reading some of the chapters on motor control and control
theory in Michael Arbib's _Handbook of Brain Theory and Neural
Networks_, as part of trying to understand how PCT differs from other
brain theories involving control. I have a number of articles still to
read, but I wonder if one significant difference is that PCT supposes
the entire nervous system to be a hierarchy of control systems, whereas
mainstream biological control theories mostly involve only motor
systems. Am I right about that?
