Just a heads-up that the DARPA Robotics Challenge is happening 20-21 December, that is, tomorrow and Saturday. See http://www.theroboticschallenge.org/
The challenge is to develop a humanoid robot which will have to complete an obstacle course involving such things as entering a vehicle and driving it, walking over ground clutter, climbing a ladder, and manipulating a firehose and a valve. The entrants have already gone through a preliminary round where the tasks were performed in physically simulated virtual reality. This event is the real thing.
There will be live streaming of the event. For those in the area of Homestead, Florida, it is also open to the public.
