To all netters and lurkers:
The 1994 CSG conference is over. I always find it very satisfying
to have four days of listening to people who share my frame of
reference and talking to people who know what I'm talking about.
The conference was videotaped by Dag Forssell, who will no doubt
soon provide the ordering information.
Business: The president of CSG is now Gary Cziko, last year's
president-elect. The new president-elect is Dag Forssell. The
secretary-treasurer is (surprise!) me.
We have agreed to meet next year from July 19-23. The default
location is Durango. We are exploring the possibility of meeting
in the East or Midwest next year. Some possible sites: the
Chicago area, near Kansas City, western North Carolina, and
western Massachusetts. We are looking for an inexpensive site
(probably a college campus) that is convenient to a hub airport,
to reduce the airfare burden for those who have found it too
expensive to get to Durango. Any suggestions are welcome.
Membership dues: CSG membership remains at $45. Student dues are
now $10. Dues are payable now in order to continue your
subscription to Closed Loop (or begin it with the Fall issue).
$24 of the dues are for the subscription, and the other $21 is a
tax-deductible donation, because we have been approved by the IRS
as a not-for-profit organization.
The donation of $21 is used as follows: a very small amount
(usually under $100) for office expenses. A subsidy for the
student subscriptions. A subsidy for students attending the
conference. We can waive the donation part of membership for
those who are truly strapped, but you'll need to explain your
situation to me.
All those who attended the meeting have paid the dues, which were
included in the meeting charge. Since attendance was small, so is
our dues base. Renewals and new subscribers are essential.
Closed Loop: The Spring and Summer issues have been delayed, but
will be forthcoming. They will be your last issues unless you
renew. The existence of future issues is up to you, and so is the
content. We do want contributions. We would like CL to be
primarily papers on PCT, rather than excerpts from the net.
Understandably you want your papers in mainstream journals, but
CL IS the mainstream journal for PCT. Send research results,
