Introcsg.net Commentary

[From Dag Forssell (950213 1545)]

This extra posting of INTROCSG.NET is inspired by our name change
on USENET. New readers have already noticed the name and signed
on. I am re-joining America On Line (since I am spending ten
dollars postage every month on MCImail anyway), but will continue to
prefer receiving on MCImail, which I check more often. I will post
INTROCSG.NET from AOL at the beginning of every month. Gary will send
INTROCSG.NET to new subscribers. Gary has promised me he will not destroy
formatting (insert hard returns or remove spaces) any more when he
re-sends it. Good control, Gary. Now, I hope I don't goof.

This issue of INTROCSG.NET is updated and expanded with
introductory paragraphs, referencing the "PCT Introduction and
Resource Guide," which I will post separately. Gary will put it on
the WWW server.

I have polished the text in a few places and added:

Perceptual Control Theory (PCT): What it is
and
     Post Format

As always, comments and suggestions will be resisted as the
disturbances they are, but may influence the next issue.

Best, Dag

Posting from AOL, I discover that the entire post is too long
to be accepted. 28 KB appears to be a maximum per post.
Therefore, this commentary is posted separately.

returns or remove spaces) any more when he re-sends it. Good

This raises questions for me. It is absolutely essential that that every
line have a hard return and that lines be limited to about 75 characters
in length if the message is to "look the same" on all of the systems.

... 28 KB appears to be a maximum per post. Therefore, this commentary
is posted separately.

This is a consideration. I have not looked at the RFC recently but there
is a recommendation as to the minimum length that a mail server is
supposed to handle. To be honest I thought that the number was around
90KB but I also believe that there is a "number of lines" limit that is
often used. We are in the position where we want to be using the minimum
limits (so that all systems will handle what we post).
