L E Bayliss' "Living Control Systems"

I have a copy of L E Bayliss’ 1966 book, “Living Control Systems,” first edition in the dust jacket. I bought it back in June from a used book seller.

I’ve been browsing through it but it’s far too technical and engineer-oriented for the likes of me. That said, here’s an interesting paragraph from the very end of chapter 7, p. 150:

“In this final section, we have been discussing highly complicated activities of living organisms in which there can be little doubt that control systems are in operation. But we are, as yet, far from having enough knowledge to be able to apply control system theory with any hope of useful results. To know that it is there, however, may help to direct research which will provide that knowledge.”

It looks like Bill Powers did a great job of getting going on that research.

If anyone is interested in buying Bayliss’ book from me I’m happy to see it go to someone who can put it to better use than I am able to do.
