Learning what's right

[From Rick Marken (981129.1550)]

Me:

If you match your reference levels to variations in disturbances
to the perceptual variables that are controlled relative to these
reference levels then you will _always_ be disturbed in the sense
that your perceptions will always vary right along with the
disturbances to these perceptions; there is no control at all.
So there is really no reason to be a control system (with reference
specifications for input) if this is how you deal with the
disturbances to those inputs. It's cheaper and easier to just be
dead.

Is this an observation or a suggestion?

More like a conclusion based on a PCT analysis.

Don't you just hate it when you have to explain a joke?

You _once_ had a sense of humor. I must admit, I haven't seen any sign of it
for the past few years. You're probably right. Levity has no place here.
This is _dead_ serious business. If we don't take ourselves as seriously,
who will? I'll try to reform.

Actually, I have lost my ability to disciminate your lightheated
jests from mean-spirited sarcasm. So I just treat everything you
say as serious -- neither jest nor sarcasm. That's why I suggested
that you might try your humor on a different audience. I think
there are others on this list besides myself who are having the
difficulty sensing your humor.

How about a vote? I'll abide by the outcome.
