Locke, Lathan, Bandura, and PCT

[From Bill Powers (2008.09.29.0855 MDT)]

OK, these two files are from 2002 where my pot boiled over, or almost
did (I can't actually recall whether I send the cover letter and
commentary to the editor of American Psychologist or not -- or if
there was a reply, if I sent it. I guess this has all been more
traumatic than I care to admit).

Sorry, folks, but here's another with the same date as the two I just
sent. It, like another one I didn't send, has the time of 7:17 in the
morning on
Sept. 22, 2002, while the two I attached were on the same date at
about 7:00 PM. There is another at 08:46 AM and still another at 2:49
PM. Looks like I spend the whole day furiously writing responses.
Maybe that was enough to make me feel better. I am pleased to see
that those among you who have replied so far seem to agree with the
adjectives I privately apply to these guys.

This one has more references at the end.

These disagreements may on the surface seem like aggressive attacks and they are, but this can be turned to ones advantage. One only has to think long enough to come up with a solution… Generally focusing on ones own successes, does the trick, it increases the power and attractiveness and solidifies personal relationships. Elliot Jaques was totally rejected violently by his colleagues for almost 20 years. But he kept at it and today there are not many violent voices against because when you have good correlations in experiments you have good
correlations. Today Elliot’s RO has a massive following all around the world with many doctorates being in RO.

General Relativity was rejected by the scientific community for years until the defining experiments put it beyond doubt.

Gavin
