[From Rick Marken (2003.07.28.1420)]
In my role as Secretary/Treasurer of the CSG I am circulating this brief summary
of the CSG 2003 conference.
The CSG 2003 conference was, I believe, a great success. We were treated to a set
of very high quality presentations as well as interesting workshops and off-line
discussions. The final list of presentations is available at
http://www.mindreadings.com/Conference.htm.
One of the highlights of the conference had to be the presentation by three
Professors from China. Huaxia Zhang of Sun Yat-sen (Zhongshan) University and
Zexian Yan and Dongping Fan of South China Normal University gave a presentation
ยทยทยท
on "Some Axiological Interpretations of PCT". It was very exciting to see that PCT is not only well know but very well understood in China. Professor Zhang said
that "Behavior: The control of perception" (B:CP) is being translated into Chinese
and that the translation may be completed before the end of this year, in honor of
the 30th anniversary of the first publication of B:CP. Translations of other PCT
publications are also in the works. Perhaps PCT will finally get the attention and
recognition it deserves from scholars in China.
Another highlight was the announcement of the publication of Phil Runkel's "People
as living things". Dag Forssell, editor and publisher of Phil's book, has several
copies of the book on hand. The book is another excellent addition to the PCT
library.
Finally, after the banquet on Saturday night there was a very moving observance of
the 30th anniversary of the publication of B:CP. A still to be completed
Festschrift for Bill Powers, with papers and reminiscences about PCT, is available
on the net at:
http://home.earthlink.net/~lloydk01/fs/festschriftnow.html
A published hard-copy version of the Festschrift will be available soon.
The new President of the CSG is Bob Summers and the president-elect is Bruce
Abbott. The 2004 meeting of the CSG will be help from July 21-225 in a to be
determined location in the upper Midwest. So try to block out this time now, if
possible.
Best regards
Rick
