Hi all
I caught this study being discussed on the radio this morning and investigated further (who can resist a fish psychology study first thing on a Monday morning?!). It describes an experiment where guppies were exposed to a predator and
the behavioural responses of the fish (freezing, distance travelled, seeking shelter etc.) were recorded. They found differences in responses between fish, and that the responses of individual fish were consistent over time and in different situations. The
article below reports this as evidence that fish have different ‘personalities’, but the findings seem to support a PCT interpretation: that reference values relating to threat responses differ between individual fish, and these reference values remain consistent
within individuals.
There’s a link in the article to the open access paper.
