[mol] Peregrine falcons

More relevant for you guys!

[From Fred Nickols (2017.12.08.0949 ET)]

Reminds me of a phrase from my Navy days: “Steady bearing, decreasing range,” which refers to the measure of intercepting a moving target or the threat of a collision.

Hi all

Heard this interesting story on the radio yesterday. Researchers have found that the attack strategies of peregrine falcons trying to intercept moving prey are similar to the control systems used in missile guidance systems. It relies on the rotation of the attackers line of sight to the target, rather than requiring the falcon to have any knowledge of the preys distance or velocity.

One takeaway is that there are funding sources for PCT research that we are neglecting.

Again, it’s a case of steady bearing, decreasing range.
