It seems to take the same demonization of all technology (except clean energy) that the propaganda film "stuff" does. Ironically, "stuff" starts out with the ipod as the symbol of evil consumerism. I could bring in about 50lbs of electronics and 150lbs of vinyl, that make an argument that the ipod is far more sustainable.

As someone who has telecommuted most of my career, and enjoys most of my entertainment at home via satellite and internet, rather than traveling to movies, the threatre, symphony, or sporting events, I find it hard to accept uncritically the idea that there aren't further contributions to sustainability available from technology. With computers now producing more calculations per watt than ever before, with computer aided design reducing the amount of destructive testing needed, with micro arrays replacing thousands of test tubes, with pixels on a screen replacing newspapers and books, with open access journals on the internet , humans may have a more interesting destiny than becoming a "feminine" earth worshiping machine.
