On the cost of not doing it right the first time

[From Dick Robertson, 2001.10.17.1935CDT]

Coming back from a gruesome (as well as gruelling I suppose) 2 hours
with my accountant to correct my various bookkeeping goofups my eye fell
on an article by Bob Greene, Don't Say that we Weren't Warned, in
today's Chicago Tribune.

He says, Maybe we shouldn't be so confident that things are going to
change....a sec'y with the Andersen...firm [Diane Kezerle] searching in
the Joliet Herald-News for an old article...noticed another story ...
"Bulletproof Cockpit doors Asked to Thwart Highjackers"....The story
reported that ...the Airline Pilots Ass'n had written to the FAA [and
detailed both the need for protection against highjackers and provided a
detailed description of the means that would affect the desired result
with inexpensive, over the counter materials.]

The date of the article was Sept., 27, 1970!
