pre-Control

Before the Control Paradigm had gained widespread acceptance it was commonly
believed by both laymen and scientists alike that control systems "behaved"
and that they were characterized by their emitted "behavior". The latter
word, although frequently used by the so-called "behavioral scientists" when
attempting to describe control and its perceived consequences, was never
accurately defined and does in that sense epitomize the pre-Control days.

Curiously enough, even some of the earliest control scientists referred to
the discovered phenomenom of control as "behavior". These developments were
noted by Michael Zuhn, the famous philosopher of science, who came to expand
on Kuhn's writings, noting that early "paradigm shifters" tend to control
for a bizarre mixture of the two clashing paradigms. This view has been much
criticized, with many scholars claiming that the "shifters" should be
classified as belonging to the older paradigm.
