progress report

Friends,

Our annual meeting was very productive. Work obligations delayed getting this brief summary report out to you.

By approving our amended bylaws, we adopted the new name that was proposed at last year’s annual meeting. The Control Systems Group (CSG) is now officially:

The International Association for Perceptual Control Theory

The bylaws are at http://iapct.org/board/IAPCT-Bylaws.pdf.

There are two new menu picks on the iapct.org website: News and Board. Expect more activity there.

We developed a list of desiderata. These are perceptions for us to control collectively. Some are to improve the structure and function of IAPCT. Some are to improve understanding and reception of PCT. Please review them at

https://goo.gl/NyUfGg

This is a Google document. Anyone with this link can read it and insert comments.

Over time, I expect that we will develop pages on the IAPCT website to coordinate and track our activities controlling these perceptions.

One important item on the list is to migrate our group email forum from the listserve at the University of Illinois. We are concerned that support from the university that hosts the listserv is not guaranteed, now that Gary has retired and relocated. In addition, some among us have expressed dissatisfaction with the listserv system and have suggested that a different email forum platform might work better for us. The listserv software dates from 1984 (1986 for the improved version). Many alternative platforms are now available that are more capable. Here’s a survey:

I would be very happy if one or more of you volunteered to research our options.

Annual IAPCT dues: $60 ($30 for students). You can send a check to

Dr. Richard S. Marken

10459 Holman Ave

Los Angeles CA USA 90024-6012

Outside the US, you can use www.transferwise.com to avoid the associated international exchange fees (there is still a small processing fee).

I expect to put a more complete summary of the annual meeting on the website in the next month or so.

Bruce, wonderful news.

I belong to two other discussion lists which use Listserv 16.0, e.g., CYBCOM:
https://hermes.gwu.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A0=CYBCOM . I’d recommend this platform if a sponsoring organization were available.

Best,

Chad
