Bjorn: You said we would know for what you were congratulating us if we
had been listening to the news. I listen to the news or read a
newspaper only once a week, and then usually in a skimming manner. I
still would like to know for what you are congratulating us. --Phil R.

The capture of Saddam Hussein folks. Am I correct Bjorn?

The silence in connection with my “Congratulation” thread and your uncertainty Marc indicates a huge difference in what people in Norway and USA were absorbed by yesterday.
In Norway there were extra broadcasting/TV the whole day and people I talked with rejoiced at the arrest of Saddam Hussein. And we rejoiced on behalf of the American and the British occupying power in Iraq. Also people who doesn’t support the occupation were delighted.

I understand that you Americans control other perceptions. So it is. It was just a heartfelt greeting from me.

Let me try something else. I have a long forthcoming vacation and my wife and I have a hut in the mountain. There is no telephone and no internet, just silence. Our children will visit us the days around Christmas Eve. And I must wait till the first days in January before I can read your mails again. I leave on Wednesday the 17. and I will be busy before I leave. Therefore: I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New CSG Year. In January I will talk more about your Test Bed Bill.

Bjorn, I learned a long time ago that to assume anything is usually a big
mistake. I always like to confirm. Please don't judge the 'reaction'of the
people of the U.S. from this list. There was 24 hr. TV & radio coverage and
newspaper headlines rang out with joy across the country.

I don't think any American can take 'credit' for capturing that creep, and
to congradulate the U.S. in some people's minds is tantamount to praising
Bush, which many on this list simply will not do.

Enjoy your vacation and holiday and have a healthy and happy new year.

The hoopla surrounding Saddam Hussein's capture reminds me of the
expression, "It is late in the day when pygmies cast such giant

Holiday greetings to you and your family, in return (with enough left
over for everyone else on CSGnet). I was very glad that our troops found
Saddam Hussein, but I wish the political situation in Iraq were clearer.
and that more of the reconstruction money was going to Iraqi contractors.
I have not, however, received any emails from the White House asking what
I wish.

I am working my way through the lessons on Smalltalk. This is going to
take quite a while, as there is a lot to learn. So far there doesn’t seem
to be any rush of people joining us in this effort, but perhaps after the
holidays there will be more… I think that the Smalltalk term for the
data sets we will need is “collection…” I just got to
that point in the lessons.

Best,

Bill P.

and

I understand that you Americans control other perceptions. So it is. It
was just a heartfelt greeting from me.

The silence, it seems to me, was not because we control different
perceptions, but rather because the only perceptions we were having at the
time were our dreams. We are 6 to 9 hours behind you and were still asleep!

Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
