If anyone else is trying to make sense of the neural side of input
control, I am finding the book _Wet Mind: The New Cognitive
Neuroscience_ by Stephen Kosslyn and Oliver Koenig very helpful.
Needless to say, nothing about control of input, but a wealth of data on
neural organization and attempts to model experimental results with
neural nets.

I liked Kosslyn and Koenig, too, well enough to use it several times in
a Cognitive Psych class I used to teach. It struck me as unique for its
time, though I haven't kept up with the more recent literature. I also
used Varela, Thompson, and Rosch's _The Embodied Mind_, though that is
unevenly written. Nowadays I would be certain to use Benny Shanon's
_The Representational and the Presentational_, though it is more purely
cognitive/epistemological than neurological.
