Hi all,
Is there any difference between reference perception and target
(value) ?
RM: The second kind of “feed-forward” control
is predictive control, where the prediction occurs in the perceptual function
and so what is controlled is a perception of the predicted future state of the
controlled variable.
Can we replace: ‘perception of the predicted state of the
controlled variable’ by target value ?
Cheers,
Arthur

Hi all,
Is there any difference between reference perception and target (value) ?
I think of the reference perception as the target for the actual perception.
RM: The second kind of "feed-forward" control is predictive control, where
the prediction occurs in the perceptual function and so what is controlled
is a perception of the predicted future state of the controlled variable.
Can we replace: perception of the predicted state of the controlled
variable by target value ?
No. The predicted state of the controlled variable is the the
perception, p, in a predictive system. The control system acts, as
usual, to bring this value of p to the reference (target) value, r.

Can we replace: 'perception of the predicted state of the controlled
variable' by target value ?
Offhand, I'd say no because the "predicted" state of a controlled variable is not the same as the reference value for that variable. I don't have any difficulty substituting "targeted value" for reference value nor do I have any difficulty substituting "target" or "target variable" for "controlled variable." Indeed, I use and have used those terms for quite some time now. But, as I just indicated, I don't think the predicted state of a controlled variable is the same as the reference state for that variable.
