Hi Norman, welcome to CSG.

Have any counselor PCTer's examined the "Technologies for Creating"
by Robert Fritz, author of "The Path of Least Resistance", for purposes
of influencing or shaping *reference signals* or for teaching,

facilitating

patient/client desired change, as his methodology seems to possibly
relate/correspond to PCT?

*very* new to PCT,

Norman, do you know what PCT is? I have read "The Path of Least Resistance"
Nice book.

How do you propose that reading this book will help "influence" or "shape"
our *reference signals*?

Norman, do you know what PCT is? I have read "The Path of Least
Resistance" Nice book.

I've read PCT tutorials, d/l'd demos, halfway thru CSGNET archives and
Dag's free book. Ord'd Power's newest pb book. Looking to learn more
ASAP. Feels like I'm comprehending some of it, but most of the
engineering diagrams are lost on me. My background includes 60 hour
masters in counseling, but professionally a trader / investor since '73
and looking to see how PCT might assist w/ market analysis.

Thanks for your reply Marc. I don't mean to suggest that the process of
reading the book will help anything <g>. My own focus, for the moment,
is facilitating personal change... and from what PCT I've read so far I
seem to direct my attention towards personal CV awareness levels of
images of my own history as well as more current perceptions. What I
know about PCT is that Fritz is a PCTist... not.

However, his overall "structure", looping orientation, focus and emphasis
on personal and individualized creative "make it up" want or Reference
signal, (which Fritz might also call a "primary choice"), the Comparator
or Fritz's "structural tension", the Error signal as an honest assessment
of the difference between the perception of what one has v. the
perception of what one wants, the Output and the adapting CV actions,
or Fritz's "secondary choices" which all reiterates to another round of
Input Perceptual signals ready to once again be compared with the
appropriate Reference signals? Is any of this making any PCT sense or
am I putting a large cube thru a small round whole?

Fritz might further relate Disturbances and Side effects as distractions
and imperfections resulting from faulty or less accurate or dishonest
Comparator, exaggerating and/or minimizing the various differences
realizing less perceptual control. Or am I attributing capabilities to the
Comparator that ain't so?

I realize I'm attempting to relate to my current complex of perceptions
the new PCT material... basically wondering if I'm in the ball park or still
standing in line?

(Nathaniel Branden has a sentence completion technique that seems it
might also address clarifying one's awareness of "wants" or perhaps
haphazardly acquired or forgotten reference signals and thus improving
perceptual control?)

Mr. Hovda, We have a few formalities in labelling our posts that are
recommended. Above you will see how I have dated mine. This is so if you say
something wonderfully intelligent then an anthropologist from Mars can attribute
it to you.

Sounds like your doing fine. I cannot overemphasize just taking a few numbers
and plugging them into the equations. Ask your daughter if the algebra is too
ancient. There is something wonderfully inescapable about a formal system, and
that is the core of PCT.

My background includes 60 hour
masters in counseling, but professionally a trader / investor since '73
and looking to see how PCT might assist w/ market analysis.

Sounds great. A few pointers. Before trying to tie PCT to other ideas or
systems--it most definately has its relatives--I think a firmer understanding
would be had if you looked at it as a self-contained scientific package. Good
luck.

Good

I would like to add a bit to Isaac's good advice. Things are _not_ as they
seem :-). I am not trying to be cute. Before getting involved in PCT I was
very involved in System Dynamics and Systems Thinking. That's where I first
read Robert Fritz. Your notion of "reference levels", "perception", and
"feedback" are different in significant ways, that are neither redily or
easlily apparent to you until you take isaac's advice and look at PCT as a
self-contained scientific package. Welcome onboard.
