Service delays

Rick complained a few days ago about 24-hour delays in delivery. I just
received one of mine after a 50-hour delay, and there are others that haven't
arrived. On Friday there was a sequence of items responding to one (not
of mine) that I still haven't received, so it was hard to understand the
issues being discussed. As Rick said, other e-mail does not seem to show
this kind of delay problem, so far as I can determine. Minutes is the
usual turnaround time, even across different kinds of network. So I think
that the CSG-L server must be having some kind of overload problem that
leads it to delay or possibly even to drop some messages to some subscribers.

Gary, I realize you are busy, but is there anything you could check on?

I have checked on this before, and I don't think there's is much that can
be done about it right now.

VMD is an old machine due to be replaced sometime next year. Apparently,
sometimes it gets a bit overloaded (imagine what it would do if every
LISTSERV group on it was as active as CSGnet).

I will however, bring this to the attention once again of VMD gurus, just
in case something can be done to tweak the system.

If nothing can be done about it other than wait a year or so and delays
become frequent and intolerable, then perhaps we should consider moving
CSGnet to another to which someone has access out there in
hyperspace.--Gary
