"The new drugs that act by blocking the return of the amines are called
re-uptake blockers. They include Prozac, the upstart drug that has received so
much recent attention due to its great success in relieving obsessive thinking
and depression. For a reluctant chemist like myself, this is the sort of
medicine I might be able to live with. Such new drugs potentiate the action of
natural neurotransmitters instead of replacing them. Because they don't turn
off the normal release, they do not initiate the addiction cycle."
