Supreme Contempt of Court

[From Rick Marken (2000.12.11.2030)]

Well, they did it! They missed the barn!

But hooray for the dissenters: Stevens, Breyer, Ginsberg and
Souter!

I think this could be the funniest four years we've had in,
well, eight years. That is, unless you happen to be poor, gay,
female or progressive.

Best regards

Rick

I can't believe it! They wait until Monday
to hear the case, and then pull this crap.

Read the pdf of the decision. It's very intersting. You don't
have to be a lawyer or a writer to see the glaring difference
in quality that distinguishes the opinion from the dissent. The
majority opinion is confusing, contorted, repetitive and meandering.
Stevens' dissent is clear, crisp and to the point. Reading the
majority opinion is like reading Aristotle or B. F. Skinner;
reading the dissent is like reading Archimedes or W. T. Powers.
I've always found that good, honest thinking comes through as
good, clear writing. The thinking behind the majority opinion
is neither good nor honest. Stevens thinking comes through as
really good, really honest -- and really pissed! Souter wasn't
too bad either. Reading the majority opinion may depress you but
the dissent will make your heart soar like a hawk!

Best
