the engineering model

[From Jeff Vancouver 950913.1140]

A long time back Bill P. posted a version of the control systems with
functions between the output function and the environmental variable, and
between the environmental variable and the input (sensor) function. He
argued this is the more complete engineering model and that the functions
refer to physical properties. I am revising a paper in which I discuss
the influences from the organization on the workings of the human
subsystem. Since an outside entity cannot directly influence the
perceptual signals etc., the major influences involve their impact on
those outside functions. What I am looking for are the labels given for
these functions (I currently just call them Function A and Function B).
Any references that discuss them more throughly would be of interest as
well.

Thank you

Jeff
