Last night we had a powerful natural fireworks display; one very close
strike entered our phone line and deafened my computer's internal fax/modem.
I've just purchased a replacement (along with a new surge protector that
includes phone-line protection), but until I get it configured I'll be off
line from the home location. So don't say anything important 'till I get
back . . .

We can access archives from the CSG website, can't we? And there are
listserv commands to get back messages. I think if you send HELP to the
listserv host it sends a message about such commands. Is that stuff in our
intro message?
Thanks, Bruce, but I was just havin' a little wry fun with that comment.
From home I am able to access my university email account, which holds the
mail for me. It'll all be there when I get back on line, or failing that,
when I get back to my office.
As I recall, the CSGnet intro message does describe how to access the
archives. It's nice to know that they are there if needed.
Time to go home and see if I can get this puppy (modem/new driver) to work.
Otherwise, it's back to tin cans and string . . .

Re forward from Bourbon and replies: Jeez, guys, if this is the
_unimportant_ stuff . . .
The replacement internal modem I purchased was supposed to connect to my
ensonic sound card but the connectors were not compatible, so the home
connection is not restored yet. Since I can't seem to find a direct
replacement, I've opted to save fifty bucks and go with a fax/modem that
lacks the speakerphone capability of my old one. Should be back in business
later today if all goes smoothly. (Now there's unwarranted optimism for you!)
